Whats the right answer to this question about law?
so when your driving down the road and you see the speed limit sign and its about 300 feet away and it says 55 but the last one you passed said 45.
so is it 55MPH once you get to the sign or when you see the sign?
My teacher asked us this in my social problems class and no one knew the correct answer.

It's only logical. Why would the law vary based on a person's sight.
Seemingly by your logic when you see a speed limit sign that means you can go that speed. If driver A can see better than driver B and can read the sign sooner does that mean he can legally drive the higher posted speed?
I've been ticketed for 54 in a 45 and I was approaching and could visually see a 55mph zone.

dont you have to have a certain sight % to be able to drive. and if you cant see that well then not license for you unless you get glasses.
so being able to see the sign shouldnt be a variable.
and im pretty sure you can be ticketed for driving with out being able to see to the legal limit.
I know several people whose eyesight is legally within range of being able to drive yet I can see farther than them.
Anyway, neither of those points that you made have anything to do with the question at hand.
Post a law, ruling, judgment etc stating that speed limit are established once you see the sign and not once you pass it.
Edit: Furthermore, you say you can be ticketed without seeing the limit. That's sort of my point. You've passed a sign at some point, whether you saw it or not. You have to go that speed. Once you get to another speed zone, you can or must accelerate or decelerate based on that newly established zone.
