The way martial artists learn is you have two guys with a belt in your lower back and you jump backwards doing a flip and they literally "flip" you with the belt. The more you do it your body learns and you won't need the belt anymore.

in some like gymnastics they have these big like cylinders that are foam. and you can basically roll over backwards to get used to the motion of throwing yourself backwards.

I used to be pretty good at backflips on trampolines, and I could jump pretty well. One day at the lake I decided to get about to my calves in water and just huck a backflip. I practiced in the water until I felt confident enough to take it on the shore, then I started doing them there.
After that it was all over. Started doing them flatland, etc.
