How do you learn to do a backflip!?
I seriously think I can do one... but it's not like I am going to try to launch my body and flip backwards on a whim.
How does one figure out they can do it without breaking their neck?
I'm 6'2" also... and I think it looks cooler when big guys can do it.
Any help!?

The way martial artists learn is you have two guys with a belt in your lower back and you jump backwards doing a flip and they literally "flip" you with the belt. The more you do it your body learns and you won't need the belt anymore.
I might just go for it myself on the grass since I don't own a trampoline.
Is this something I should videotape just in case I hurt myself? So the paramedics and my family can see what went wrong?

Easy way of preparing your body for a back flip.
1) Lean up against a wall (back to wall)
2) Put hands on wall, above your head, fingers down
3) Slowly walk your hands to the ground
Before you know it you'll be able to arc your back with ease and then all that's left is to swing your feet over.
