Default Maximizing PC performance

I installed 2GB of ram (up from 512MB) a few months ago and noticed lately that my PC isn't really all that much faster. I was bumping around in my system settings and found the 'page file size'...after googling what it actually meant, I realized it was set to 150% of 512MB and not 150% of 2GB, so that should help now that it's set correctly h:

Any other changes you guys make to optimize computer performance?

you dont need a 3 gig page file.

adding more ram doesnt always make a difference if you dont use memory intensive applications.

Open the Task Manager and check the numbers on the performance tab.

in my case.... with just firefox (and my standard background stuff) running, im using...

420MB of Page file, and 480 megs of ram. (i have 1GB)

If your numbers are low and you dont ever run intensive apps.... try turning off the pagefile completely

Oh really? My PC is mainly used for Media Center (hence the need for RAM) internet and Word applications.

I have a partition on my 220gig hard drive (160C/60D). C is for hardware, windows files and media center, D is for documents, pictures and music.

Right now I have 355MB page file and for physical memory it says 2.09gig total, 1.60 gig available and .56 gig system cache. Any suggestions on how to optimize this?

so basically.. youre using 355MB out of 3GB for our pagefile... and 400 out of 2GB of your ram.

turn off the page file...and test the system under a full load (run mce+ whatever else you would run.) and see if it runs stably.

It runs alright, maybe a bit slower than before. What's the advantage to having no page file?

if you have a cton of rap... it will prevent the computer from offloading data out of ram into the pagefile.

turn it back on, and just clean your system, remove any unnecessary programs to start on bootup... and you should be fine.

The point of the page file is to use the hard drive when physical ram has run out.

From a performance perspective.... you don't EVER want this.

What should I set it to for C and D drives?
