Wasn't there an episode on "How it's made" that showed how they made beer? I love watching that show, definately on my fav list.

Let us know how it comes out.

:yumyum: My dad and I have 3 cases of an Indian Pale Ale with some malt fermenting right now. We used a kit though. In a few weeks we're going to do it from extracts.

damn it took forever for the grains to hit 160 degrees...now I just have to let them steep for 20 minutes then on to adding the malt.

So how much does a DIY kit like that cost? And how much does it make?

It's my first time out and it cost me about $120. But I had to buy a lot of stuff that is reusable...like a very large pot, a fermenting bucket, and a lot of little stuff. From here on out it should cost $30 - $35 for for 5 gallons. At least that's for the Irish Stout....the price for others might very. I am still very new to this.

And as far as time it only takes an hour or two the first day and then maybe 30 minutes to an hour to bottle it a few weeks later.

I hope the taste is as good as the smell. It's nowhere near beer yet but it smells amazing. Right now the steeping grains smell like a mix between pipe tobacco and fresh ground coffee
