The problem being is that PV2 Nagy is also breaking a few rules by unholstering his sidearm in an enclosed vehicle outside of tactical engangement. Pointing said sidearm in a manner that is not "up and down range". And where did he get it? His standard issue is an M16 not a sidearm. Pistols are for officers/medics/REMF's. That pic could get you in trouble Pete.
Now how's that training shit go again?
your making assumptions.
its possible he just left or is about to enter a area where enemy forces are present. its possible his vehicle was just fired on. from what i understand there is no "safe place" in iraq when it comes to standard infantry units. its also possible that pistol could belong to the guy taking the picture, maybe the guy is a medic, maybe the guy is a CO. i dont see a holster of any sort on Pete so more than likely its not his pistol.
and second, what you are taught in training and what you actually do once you hit a live combat zone is generally close but never identical. granted i never served but common sense would dictate how you train is followed as close as possible but what really happens is never identical.
i guarantee that in non life threatening situations over there, military rules are bent quite frequently. and like everyone else said, pete has extensive training in firearms...not to mention as he said he is a sharpshooter. that said i see nothing wrong with what he was doing
