10 years for shooting illegal alien smuggling drugs
unlike most of you, i think these BP agents deserve to goto jail. Their actions show that they're the same as corrupt police officers. You don't just fire a gun, collect the shell casings and never file a report. If they covered up this shooting, then what else have they covered up? There are specific protocols in place and these officers blatantly did not follow them. It's as-if they knew what they did was wrong. Therefore, I hope this serves a lesson to other BP agents and LEOs that they do not carry an immunity card or a get outta jail free ...

In El Paso, Texas, US Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean are on trial this week for shooting an unarmed drug smuggler and then trying to cover up the crime. They face nearly a dozen federal charges, including assault with the intent to commit murder and tampering with an official proceeding. Ramos and Compean shot Mexican national Osvaldo Aldrete Davila in the back as he attempted to flee back into Mexico after a confrontation with the two agents, but did not report the shooting. A federal indictment charged that Compean "collected and disposed of spent casings" after the shooting. Aldrete, who was accused of driving a van with 700 pounds of marijuana the day of the shooting, has been given immunity and is expected to testify. The case only came to light when a relative of Aldrete told an Arizona Border Patrol, who forwarded the information to the Department of Homeland Security's Office of the Inspector General.
In El Paso, Texas, two Border Patrol agents who shot a fleeing drug courier in the buttocks were found guilty March 9 of assault, weapons crimes, tampering with evidence, and deprivation of civil rights. Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean face at least 10 years in federal prison for shooting Osvaldo Andrade Davila, a Mexican citizen, as he fled back across the border when they interrupted his effort to carry a package of drugs into the US. Ramos and Compean also conspired to cover up the shooting by removing spent shell casings from the scene. The pair turned down a plea bargain for 18-month sentences. They have been suspended with pay since the February 2005 incident, and Border Patrol officials said they will now consider firing them.

Well, the 9/11 bombers were here on student visas. The first WTC center attacks in 1993 were done with tourist visas. Basically, all terrorists in the US in the last 20 years were allowed into this country legally. And, even if you close off the southern border, the northern border is still very open and unprotected. On the other hand, documenting who is here as a temporary worker has very real benefits to our government and society, so a lot of reward for a very small increase in risk.
