So I want a MacBook
I like my Mac. It isn't perfect, but the build quality is good, and I like OSX. OSX isn't perfect, either. I like it more than XP, I should say. It depends on what you're using it for. Office for Mac is useless on Intel macs. It runs terribly on top of Rosetta. Photoshop CS2 is cumbersome on top of Rosetta as well. CS3 beta runs very nicely, though.
if you like the Mac OS, i say go for it =)
I just like the lack of virus for mac. and its easier to use than pc
dashboard ftw widgets ftw
with the press of 1 button i can check 2 emails, news, weather =) (pretty much anything you want to add to your dashboard)

The $1500 range came from pricing out a 2.0ghz MacBook (middle one) with 3 yr Apple Care. I can get an education discount through my mom or sister who are both educators. I feel that is about what I am looking for spec wise for a new laptop.
Good point. I am just doing general internet surfing / word processing. Some photo editing but nothing big. I don't play games.

Yep I had two Satellites. First went out and was returned on warranty for fan failure, second one I got my money back after the mobo just up and fried the processor on me for no apparent reason. I will not buy again, I am on to IBM at this point because I am what they call a "high user" meaning the machine is on almost 24/7 and it seems the IBM business class machines are fine with that

My feeling is that while the stats of the MacBook (or other comparable laptops) may be overkill, it will last for at least three years. I like to tote my laptop around with me whether I am traveling, walking the city, etc. Durability is the biggest thing I am looking for because my needs do not require me to have a cutting edge machine all of the time. My current machine is fine for what I need, but the build quality is crap and it's falling apart.
computers are like cars....more power is always better!
