Default it's almost like sony wanted to fail..

http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl...6/11/30/205254

"Sony may be aware that something is just not right. There's a reshuffling of management occurring within Sony. Kazuo Hirai is set to head their videogame unit, as Ken Kutaragi has been bumped to the Sony board. Jack Tretton, former COO for SCEA, is now the president and CEO of that arm of the company. There's no word on the reasoning behind these position shifts. On the same day, Namco announced that they must sell 500,000 games to begin making profit on PS3 games. A Financial Times article confirms speculation on how hard it will be for Sony to make money, as analysts with UBS predict that 30 games must be sold per PS3 for them to break even."

To add insult to injury, EA CEO Larry Probst has said PS3 numbers were lower than expected. Current thinking is that Sony managed to ship roughly half of the 400,000 units they were promising..

surprise surprise

rushing a product way too soon will do this to you....u think the millions of dollars a year they spend on market analysts and whatnot would have shown them not to rush the product

i have a feeling that if the PS3 really does turn out to be an utter disaster, sony will drop out of the console business.

we'll see though. a fairer measurement will be a year from now.

its just that the demand is too high. Once the market gets flooded with them, and the price starts to drop in a year, you'll see them sell more and more. again, a la ps2.

if I ever get a ps3, it won't be for another year or two. my buddy has one, so I'll just save $600 for a bit (he's actually spent $900 w/ games and accessories).

its not that the demand is too high, supply is way too low. its not like it was a surprise the level of demand that was reached. sony had an idea what the initial demand was going to be and they still released when they did. they cant meet half the demand because of issues in producing the ps3. all blame lays solely on their shoulders.

sony over the years has diversified themselves too much. their fingers are in so many fields that it was only a matter of time before they failed somewhere

but they kept pushing back the launch date. they had to go through with it, even at a bad time. and especially before christmas. I don't think they could have launched it at a better time, honestly. I mean, put it off for 6 months? that wouldn't fly too well...

consider the tech used in it. maybe it was a branch for them to walk out on, but I think it was a good gamble for them to take.

can't blame them. thats how you roll in the corporate world. I'll admit I'm a little upset with the way sony has handled their diversification (laptops and lcd's ), but its not an easy task. lets hope they learn from a few mistakes....
