edit: and you don't want your sony battery to explode on you

ibm is by far the best. toshiba, fujitsu and acer are pretty good. but fujitsu is usually a little higher end, meant more for corporate use. acer doesn't have a good selection in the US. they make the Ferrari notebooks in Europe
that article is almost 2 yrs old. it would be hard for me to believe that the 'stats' are still valid

plus i can point out about 15 people in my company who have ibm laptops with the faulty batteries. not to mention if yours is faulty it will be replaced free of charge.

other than that your right, hp/compaq sux balls
know what a joke is?

i also forgot to mention... notebooks with AMD processors are usually going to have poorer battery performance than their intel equivalents, because they're more power hungry.

IBM FTW even after the Lenovo purchase they are solid machines.

Do not buy Toshiba or Sony. My Toshiba had shit for battery and blew the fan and chipset in a year of use. I have seen Sonys fall apart in 6 months or less even.

Yea that's the thing. Best Buy doesnt sell them. IF they did id have him be all over IBM's. I'd tell him to use my IBM discount, but we're stuck with hp,sony, gateway, and toshibas

He can't get a cash refund?

BB also sells the Alienware laptops which I have heard good response on, basically an upcharged Acer if I remember right with a better vid setup.

It's been about a year or two, not real sure right now. All I know is my IBM is on 24/7 and is used pretty hard and I have yet to have any issues with it at all.

meh, believe whatever you want. sony may have made some improvements over the last couple years, but i still wouldn't buy one. the rest are still crap, have always been crap, and aren't changing any time soon. you can add gateway to that list, too.
