Default Workout Crew: Let's talk SQUATS

Do you go parallel to the ground or ass to grass?

I bought Arnold's Bodybuilding Encyclopedia last night and he advocates a full range of motion, even on squats.

What do you do?

I do parallel personally because that's how I was taught. Now that I'm close to squatting my weight, I don't really want to bring my ass lower because I'd have to put on less weight on the bar...even though it'd be a better pump. Yeah I'm guilty of worrying about quantity and not quality

Anyway just curious as to what you guys do.

Ass to grass.. The weakest point in that range of motion would be at parallel. Go lower for full exercise of range of motion.

Keep shoulders in front.. Ass in back. not fully compressed and not fully locked on either end of the motion. don't let your joints take the strain of the weight. That's what the muscles are for.

Same as the bench press.. Don't lock your elbows after raising the weight.
Bad for your elbows. Always keep them slightly bent.

Locking joints = stress fractures and propencity to hyper extend.

Squats are my favorite, I go ass to grass. One of the most overlooked exercises when everyone only cares about upper-body.

I hate squats, one of my knees always pops and it's annoying.

Oh yeah I hate the 2 days after leg day, I am always hating life. I'm so emo right now. :wtc:

Oh well ass to grass next time. Right now I am squatting 175 so hopefully I can go all the way at 155.
