I'm fairly flat footed (horrible for running) and I'm pretty much pain free.

If a 200 lb flat footed short legged guy can run, anyone can.
How do you check if the shoes are right? I wonder if the school have places to check for that. :hs:

She hasnt look into any of that stuff. She just pretty much put on a pair of shoes and started running h: I'll pass this onto her.

I go to Road Runner sports.. They're trained to diagnose running / walking issues.

They also have a foot pressure gauge that monitors pronation.

Then, based on that, they can reccommend a type of shoe, what features, brands and styles will best suit your condition.

If there's one around you, that would be the best thing to do. Running in the wrong type of shoe can do more harm than good.

I run with asics gel evolution 9's. Motion control, extra arch support and more durable for larger framed runners.

Its the only shoe i wer now. I have 5 pairs that I rotate. Make sure you ditch them after 300 miles. They may still look good, but the rubber and foam are too compressed and worn out by then.

She runs about 2-3 miles on the sidewalk 5 days a week. :hs:
Have her get on a EFX machine. Zero impact, but produces same results as running. It works for me.
