Immigrants and learning English
But you know, if we went anywhere, lets say France, theyd treat us the exact same way as we do with orthodox hispanics. Im sure the smelly French wouldnt cut us any slack. Fuck it. I know the language thats world renown so Im not sweating.
If they are going to come into an English speaking country they should be prepared. The English speaking people shouldn't have to go out of their way to accomidate for people who can't.

Should we make them learn English or should we learn Spanish better?
... or should we get better translators?

But OTOH..I feel like it's equally unrealistic to expect our educational, governmental and health-care systems to take on the expense of becoming multi-lingual institutions.
English is still the predominant language in this country; accordingly, there ought to be a concerted effort on the part of those who immigrate to assimilate and learn the English language.

It took some time till they were fluent but they didnt rely on anyone learning their language or anyone helping translate. Anyone can learn you just have to want to and most people dont want to because they can get around it through translators and Spanish speaking phone menus. I dont see a Russian phone menu when I call the state department or cambodian phone menu.
