Agreed. To expect the transition to be instantaneous is unrealistic.

But OTOH..I feel like it's equally unrealistic to expect our educational, governmental and health-care systems to take on the expense of becoming multi-lingual institutions.

English is still the predominant language in this country; accordingly, there ought to be a concerted effort on the part of those who immigrate to assimilate and learn the English language.
