You get what I'm trying to say. A language doesn't come over night. We don't know that preson, they may be going to classes every day/night and struggling to learn English.

I know that if I wind up working as a foreign correspondent later on, I'll need to learn the language of the region I'm sent to. So, just as I would make the effort to cross the language barrier, so should those coming to America.

It took some time till they were fluent but they didnt rely on anyone learning their language or anyone helping translate. Anyone can learn you just have to want to and most people dont want to because they can get around it through translators and Spanish speaking phone menus. I dont see a Russian phone menu when I call the state department or cambodian phone menu.

Of course why should they when an english speaking nation prints any information in 15 different languages and doesn't hire anyone unless they are bilingual.
Get real man I a call my phone provider, water company, cable company and they have menus in at least two languages if not more. why are we catering to their lazy asses? All it does is cost us more money to be able to offer services in their language than the cost of the services themselves.
If I moved to another country I would make every effort to speak the predominant language in that country. It would be stupid to expect everyone else around me to learn my language and it would be stupider still to argue discrimination when they didn't.

I can understand both sides of the arguement. But in the very least... Please, please learn to carry on a very simple conversation. Greetings and goodbyes, the number system... Basics. I mean, I live between two corn field, and at my retail job I often have a problem helping Hispanic customers because of the lack of communication. I took four semesters of Spanish in high school, but over time such things become rusty... I don't plan on learning any more Spanish unless I decide to visit Spain.
When I began seeing 2 languages on bags of Doritos... I got worried.
