I actually really like VW/Audi's designs. I like the way their cars look (mostly - the new Jetta/Golf are awkward, but Audis have never looked better), I like their engines, and their interior amenities are tough to beat. But everybody I've known who's bought a VW built w/in the last ten years has had horrendous problems with the electrical system. VW has been consistently ranked at or near the bottom of JD Power's and everybody elses reliability charts for the last several years. The hate isn't necessarily directed at VW as a whole, but their inability to build a vehicle with reliable electronics really, really hurts their reputation, and rightfully so.

:werd: all the automotive electrical engine control systems that I'm familiar with have build in conditions they go to in case of a malfunction. Like if there's a problem in the electronic throttle, it'll go to 5% open or something. I have a hard time believing that VW didn't build in fail safes to their stuff.

It's called the Hitler option. If things start going bad it just commits suicide.

Yeah. I think the navigation system in Volkswagens only goes to Poland :chuckles:

because they always advertise their cars as high quality 'german-engineered' vehicles yet they always have problems. a lot of vw owners know about all these problems yet continue to buy vws with problems and try to act like there's nothing wrong.

That's pretty sad that a minute at redline did that to essentially a brand new engine. What a pile of fucking garbage VW is, they becomew worse and worse every year.

I have the stock G25A1 in the Vigor with 152,000 miles on it right now, I bet I could peg that thing to the redline for 10 minutes and still be okay.

I'm not gonna try though h:

Any interference engine that goes into redline for a minute is going to do that, depending on how far into redline it goes. Ever heard of valve float? Should it have done that? No. that's the one thing I don't like about VW's is their Drive-by-wire system, I prefer a throttle cable over an electronic sender.

70k in 2yrs on my vw, no major issues, just a bad turn signal relay(hazard switch). My friend had a 2002 GTI that was modded to high hell and driven very hard, only problem he had was coil packs, which was fixed under recall.

The problem with VW is the maintenance, it's expensive, ppl start going to local shops to get regular maintenance done. Then non-approved fluids, filters, and sensors are used and the problems begin. I know where to shop to get my approved items and do the maintenance myself with my bentley shop cd.

Um yeah...at BorgWarner I've seen engines commonly last 600+ hours at redline. The only engine I've ever seen have valve float is the Ford Duratec with cast iron valves that absorb heat like a bitch and just drop out.

So that excuse doesn't work

I still want to know how high this engine revved and what the cause of the damage was. Something doesn't sound right.
