I actually really like VW/Audi's designs. I like the way their cars look (mostly - the new Jetta/Golf are awkward, but Audis have never looked better), I like their engines, and their interior amenities are tough to beat. But everybody I've known who's bought a VW built w/in the last ten years has had horrendous problems with the electrical system. VW has been consistently ranked at or near the bottom of JD Power's and everybody elses reliability charts for the last several years. The hate isn't necessarily directed at VW as a whole, but their inability to build a vehicle with reliable electronics really, really hurts their reputation, and rightfully so.
