I learned in psychology that as long as you go through at least 1 cycle of REM sleep than you have benefitted. It generally takes 1.5 - 2 hours to complete one cycle. Power naps aren't very good for you because you go into beta sleep and come out so your brainwaves have slowed and you feel groggy still, and also your brain hasn't repaired itself. It only repairs itself in the deeper stages of sleep.

I have never heard of a condition relating to that. But it is possible to feel tired and groggy if you happen to wake up during stages 3 or 4 of the 5 stage sleep cycle. People cycle through the 5 stages many times in one night. If someone wakes up during the 5th stage, REM sleep, they normally won't feel very tired or groggy because their brain waves at that time are most like the brainwaves of someone that is awake and active.
