I agree with any statement that would be considered to be offensive by anyone shouldn't be used in the workplace or anywhere period, unless you're friends with the person and it's an inside joke, etc.

It's just common sense.

I can't tell you how many times I got called cracker or got put down because of my race. Am I bitter? Why would I be? It was in grade school. I looked different from what most kids looked like, why wouldn't they make fun of me?
I agree with that.

It's alright to make fun of us because 'our ancestors didn't go through anything'? That makes zero sense to me.

my point is, racism hasn't stopped. It spreads. Just because I wasn't forced into slave labor doesn't mean that it's completely gone.

The "jokes" are funny to some ... but some people actually mean it.

but that's the root of the issue, is it right to pick on people because they look different? That's not truly acceptable, never is, never will be.

You can choose what you think and believe ... you can't choose what shell you're born into.

from 5th grade all the way though 8th ... 3 solid years of bullshit racism jokes day in and day out have an effect on you.

Don't take me wrong, I have friends of all colors and associations ... but to have the "jokes" stop by being with "my own kind", was something I really needed to develop as a person.

But you seem to have worked thru all that hatred, and from your latter posts that i have read you seem to be pretty well off. I think every single one of us white/black/asian or whatever have experienced crude racial biased jokes when we were growing up, its just a part of life nowadays.

I think what you maybe doin't get or what I'm wrong in is that I believe kids make fun of other kids because they look different...it has nothing to do with their race. Fat kids, kids with big ears, goofy looking kids, minorities, little asshole kids will make fun of them all. Why do fat kids hang around each other? Why do all the nerdy goofy kids hang around each other? Not racism. They do it because kids are assholes.

There certainly is a lot of racism in the world but I think the best way to combat it is to realize what is and what isn't. Some white kid calling a black kid the n word then throwing a glass bottle as him is probably pretty racist. Some 15 year old white kid who has no grasp of history making black person jokes to his friends that he heard on TV gets kicked out of school, is that racist? It happens all the time. Or is it just a kid being a dumb kid? How is it going to stop racism to take such severe actions on people people dumb or just kidding around?

I'm sorry you went through a lot of shit when you were a kid, but so did I, and so did a ton of other kids. But you have to realize that maybe they weren't being racist bigots, they just saw you as an easy target to make fun of because you looked different and maybe acted different

see that's the thing that gets me ... when I think about it, I try to rationalize the past by saying, "they were immature kids, they didn't know better". Then I hear something like that when I'm 27 ... it's sad knowing that the racist mindset never quite faded away.

The person who said "ching chong" was probably the same type of asshole who picked on kids because of their color when he was young.

agreed! so stop crying me a river with your racial "I am offended!" crap. We all face racism to some degree and just cause whites don't cry every time someone calls them cracker, dope addicts, trailer trash etc, doesn't make us less prone to racism.
