712s are more grippy than 711s... or at least stiffer. Thats why when I had both, the 711s went out back h:

In my oh so humble opinion, here we go, in descending price order.

$135 @ tirerack.com - Goodyear F1 GS-D3 - "Max Performance" (MP) Really great wet traction and pretty decent wear.

$119 @ tirerack.com - Bridgestone RE750 - "Ultra High Performance" (UHP) will be a bit more comfy and longer life, with corresponding decreases in grip compared to F1 GS-D3.

$105 @ onlinetires.com - Toyo Proxes T1-R - MP - kind of on the low end of Max Performance category, pretty good wear, bout a half step up from the RE750 in grip and same step down in wear

$89 @ discounttiredirect.com - Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 - MP - sick sick sick dry grip, wet grip and wear are kinda ehh, but hey they're cheap

$83 @ tirerack.com - Avon Tech M500 - UHP - good all-rounder, pretty similar to Bridgestone RE750 but cheaper

$82 @ tirerack.com - Yokohama AVS ES100 - UHP - another good all-rounder, pretty common tire in the drifting circuit because its overall grip isn't super high but pretty good...but for non-drifting it's been surpassed by the Avon M500, Bridgestone RE750 and Kumo SPT.

$75 @ tirerack.com - Kumho Ecsta SPT - UHP - replacement for 712, pretty comparable to the RE750 and nice and cheap

The RE750, M500, ES100 and SPT are pretty similar. Of that bunch I'd probably pick the SPT. The T1-R is a step up from this group. The F1 GS-D3 is stupid good in the wet and better in the dry than the T1-R too. The Z212 is the best of these in the dry, and in the wet it's about equivalent to the T1-R, but wear is kind of bad.

Below this you have a buncha tires that are all kind of a step down but I don't feel like listing em.

Disclaimer: in order to appease people don't like people who like to answer other people's questions the above post is my own opinion and nothing more. h:

Just curious, how many have you driven on in that tire review?

You're not the one asking the question here so I don't have to justify myself to you. I already put my disclaimer in.

no way the 711s are better than the 712s..

as for the 712s themselves, i remember when it was the bandwagon choice, and everybody loved them. then all of a sudden, they were crap.

i had them for a while. they were great for the price. hell, they still are. i upgraded to the MXs because i wanted a little more stick, but if cost was a factor, i would have gotten the 712s again.

and i'm sorry, but you can't just negate the price. "Compared to everything else price excluded"... come on now. you know you can't make comparisons like that.

i've been through a number of tires...good and bad...and the 711 is on the bottom.

I had these this summer in 205/45/16's and I've been very happy with them. At least as much grip (wet or dry) as Kumho 712's I had before plus better noise and wear and you can acutally rotate them (they're not a directional tread) Avon's not a real big name around here yet but read some of the reviews, people have been pretty happy with them.
