What's a 4 ohm setup?

Infact what is an ohm?

I've thought about this instead...

The same HU:

http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/...y=45&p_main=10

The same Type-R speakers:

http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/...y=90&p_main=10

And this amp:

http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/...=120&p_main=10

Just that setup, would that be the perfect setup, not under powered, not over powered, just right, to let me at a later date pickup a dedicated amp for the sub, or maybe buy an even better sub? It's just personally, I don't want that much weight in my car, since it's already pretty damn heavy and slow.

Or would really, the HU + Type-R's + Type-R Sub and the Hifonics amp really be good? Not over or under powered. I've gotten mixed answers difference places that the Hifonics amp won't be enough for it all, and to just get 2 different amps, one for the speakers, and one of the sub.

And it's a 1998 Nissan Altima.

My mistake. I didnt look at the subwoofer carefully.

That Hifonics will not be able to give enough power to that sub with its 5th channel.

What about my last post?

If I got that HU, 2 pairs of those speakers, and THAT amp, would that be perfect? Then later just get a dedicated amp for that sub?

Would it be under powered or over powered? And what is worse between the two? And, would a 1 sub be okay? Because rarely do I see a 1 sub setup, I always see two in a box. And do you have a good reccomendation for an amp for that 1 sub? And the placement of the amp, under the seat, is that okay, or would it get too hot?

Or should I just put it in the trunk, and place a board over the spare tire and drill it there to hold in place, and unscrew it when I need to get out my spare?

Overpowering is safer than underpowering for most people. With underpowering, you run the risk of sending in clipped signals when the user set the gains too high because they usually think that will increase the volume. The safest bet is course give the recommended wattage with a bit of headroom. And then learning to set the gains.

I have 1 sub. 1 sub is fine.

500 watts for the sub? eD nine.2 or if you really want some headroom, eD nine.2x

Placement of amp, under the seat is fine, just make sure it gets enough air movement down there. A few inches on all sides should be ok. Another concern to watch for are the vents under the seats, you dont want the amp down there next to the vents when the heater is on.

Sure, why not.

Just a toss-in. I have the same headunit, or the model down(less Preouts) and I love it. I've had it since beginning of summer and have had no problems with it. Worth the money.

I just noticed you're in Oakland, California, do you know of any good stereo shops in the Bay Area? I'm inbetween Oakland and San Jose, really close to Hayward.

Oh and, for those four speakers and HU, and the Alpine amp, how over powered am I?
