I have had both. Owned X850XT, X800Pros, 7800GTX SLI, X1800XL. I love both. They have their pro and cons, but as far as performance and Quality goes, you can't go wrong with neither.

i have always bought nvidia, not for any particular reason, except for a radeon i bought that totally crapped out after a year. so i went back to nvidia after that. however, just recently i have been doing a bit of reasearch on this very topic because im overdue for a video card upgrade and i am finding that ati seems to be doing a better job from the ground up, starting with the engineering of the boards and processors, etc. but, if i were to go solely on personal experience, ive had about 6 nvidias over the years with no problems and 1 radeon that crapped out after a year :dunno:

I've always used nVidia and I've always been very happy with them so I haven't switched.

It prolly matters mostly on when you buy your graphics card. If you want the best card out or the best bang for your buck it depends more on when your buying the card more than what company you're buying from. Right now I would say that the 7800GTX is the best card out but the X800PRO is the best bang for the buck. They both seem to be good companies tho.

You are going to be using a mobo with an nvidia chipset on it, I'd definatly stick with nvidia for the video card as well.
