You're right, and I do take it as an insult.

Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the jewish year. At least in areas where there's a pretty big jewish population, public schools and stuff close down for both Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah (the jewish new year, which is 10 days before Yom Kippur).

It's not universal but it also doesn't make much sense in large parts of the country where there are few or no jews.

oh i agree i am not saying that they should give days off for Ied or Ramadan or anything like that what i am saying is that Xmas in forced on us(again not me i enjoy it and i love it) so when you force it on other peeps, It's understandable that The others have a right to say fine force a holiday but dont force a religious one.

I think this clearly defines how bad organized religion is. Sure they don't mind if everyone celebrates it, as long as they know "the true meaning" of it. BULL SHIT.

It's a holiday. Anyone can celebrate it for whatever reason they want. I was raised catholic, I don't believe much of it or even pratice it, But I'm sure going to participate in the "HOLIDAY EVENT". Even if I don't believe in the whole thing, we need things like the holidays to get ourselves a mental kickstart.

Doesn't matter who you are, celebrate christmas as a time of giving and happiness. Don't bother to listen to those bible humpers, just have a good time.

no personal offense to you, but that just sounds like ignorance. i mean holidays are there b/c something important took place which would merit a day being there to commemorate it. im sure a day like martin luther king jr day is there to help remember the whole civil rights deal, and particularly a man who did what he believed to be best to make drastic social changes. christmas, or any other holiday for that matter, should at least be able to exist to remind people of its significance. now whether you believe the reason to be significant or not is entirely up to you. to say just live it up w/o concern would be a bit shallow and disrespectful, at least in my opinion.

As far as commercialization and secular acceptance of christian holidays go, what about commercialization and christian acceptance of pagan holidays? Isn't St. Valentine's day an "adopted" christian holiday? I think we all can agree that valentines day is extremely overcommercialized.

If christians can celebrate st valentines day (and a few other "adopted" holidays), I don't see any problem with non-christians celebrating christmas.

Not that it matters to me. FWIW, I'm not christian and I don't celebrate christmas, valentines day, halloween, etc.

I love how you say "non Christians." Its really fabulous. Christmas means a lot to me for a variety of reasons, and you know nothing about how I celebrate it or if it means more to me than you.

Please, step awaaaaay from ethnocentrism.
