You figure with Damon unsigned, Manny on the move, and the pitching needing work ... this would be the last thing they'd do .
you happy about landing Pierre?

they got him for almost nothing ... but he's not a true leadoff hitter.

I like what Hendry is doing with the bullpen, but the entire OF / SS positions are up in the air. I'm praying for an SS miracle, like a trade for Tejada.

Not to nitpick but Grady's contract was up and he was not rehired.

right, and a reason for him not being rehired was because of the controversy behind leaving pedro in too long.

he managed 2 season.

1st season -- 93-69 (.574)
2nd season -- 95-67 (.586)

...he wasnt rehired based on what? obviously not his track record cuz those are rather impressive win/loss records.

i was just about to post the Damon News. I dont really like this move all that much being a yankee fan. They rediculously overpaid for him. He is not worth 52 million over 4 years by any means. His outfield defense was slipping last year in Boston and frankly I doubt he could throw out the trash on trash night with that arm of his. On the offensive side He is the perfect leadoff hitter, this way it pushes everyone down a spot for the Yanks
Damon
Jeter
Arod
Sheffield
Giambi
Matsui
Posada
Cano
and Crosby for now in the 9 hole.
Absolutely scary for a opposing pitcher
Anyways I feel that we are just going to be seeing a newer version of bernie, with Damon's level of play dropping steadily for the next couple of years til we are dreading him playing every day in Center.

Oh yea a rumor has already been heard about Williams going to Boston to replace Damon :eek3:

i don't like the damon signing too. 52M for 4 years for a player past their prime? eek.

agreed, the yankees could have had Beltran for that price if they just doubled the $ and years. I would have much rather had a youngster entering his prime then Damon going down hill fast.
either way i have been quite disappointed with the yanks "moves" this offseason, Farnsworth for nearly 6 mil a year, Mike Myers, Going after Dotel and bringing in Villone from Florida. Those are all new Bullpen pieces but not a single one of them strikes fear into opposing hitters like i wanted out of a setup man GRRRR
