I have the same internet service in the same area, and I've always thought the problem was my modem. It keeps resetting itself, almost like it's losing power. I don't think the harness for the power cable (it's not just a simple DC plug) sits in the modem correctly...and it causes the modem to lose power from time to time. But I'm going to have to call them this week. It's fine most of the time, but the past 2 days it's been on and off every 3 minutes.

I'm in San Francisco. I've had dsl for the past 4 years I believe? And It rarely ever gets messed up. So I never saw a reason to change to cable(actually, I wanted to get cable because of the higher down/upload speeds). But for the past year, my speeds have gone up to a point it's almost or just as good as cable. The price sucks but...eh. My cousin who lives about 5 minutes from me has comcast and has a crappy connection so he might go with dsl. And one of my other friends that has comcast up the block from me has a great connection. So I guess it does vary where you live. :dunno:

The one time I tried cable access here, it was down 6 weeks of the three months I supposedly had their service. They didn't want to fix it, so I went back to dial up.

The lines in my neighborhood are jacked, and that's likely the problem. I noticed that they don't always make connections at logical junction points, but just cut into the middle of the cable and run lines where needed. That seems kinda dumb to me.

I had cable since @home which became ATTBI and now Comcast. If the early days were very unreliable, I find Comcast doing a pretty good job nowadays. I had maybe 1 or 2 outtages in the past 12 months which seems reasonable to me. I am located in CO btw, and DSL is not a viable alternative in the area.
