If it is dropping out, are you monitoring your cable modem to see if it loses signal? It may not be the Provider with the issue, but an issue with the cable from the tap to your modem. Too much or too little signal can cause it to drop in and out. I would call in to their tech support and have them check your Transmit Level.
I have the same internet service in the same area, and I've always thought the problem was my modem. It keeps resetting itself, almost like it's losing power. I don't think the harness for the power cable (it's not just a simple DC plug) sits in the modem correctly...and it causes the modem to lose power from time to time. But I'm going to have to call them this week. It's fine most of the time, but the past 2 days it's been on and off every 3 minutes.
