Default Ghetto people asking for handouts

I'm getting really sick of ghetto people asking for money. I'm not talking about bums. I'm talking about people who mock up a BS story about "needing gas money" or "bus money" or "phone money". These are rarely legit, I'm guessing.

What do you guys do when approached by people like this?

Keep walking. One time a guy ran out of gas in the Walmart parkinglot here, he asked for money to get gas at the station on the complex, but I only had abunch of bills, so I told him I didnt have any. :happysad:

My friend came behind me in his car, and had some spare change that he gave the guy. He actually did go get gas, so I felt kinda bad that I couldnt help him. I just didnt feel comfortably pulling all the bills out of my pocket to give him a dollar or two.

I had a guy come up to me in the parking lot of a cheap restaurant. I was with my girlfriend at the time, and he gave us some sob story about how he ran out of gas and he was trying to make it back home to the coast (a little over an hour drive). Well he seemed legit so I gave him a 5. A few hours later both of us were like "Do you know how easy it would be to just make that up and scam people?". Since then I haven't given out any money.

It's a sad comment on the state of society when we don't help those in need...on the assumption that they're running a scam. But the sad fact is, the ones with "sob stories" probably are scamming people.

I give to charities like Goodwill and the Salvation Army... foundations that are well-known and responsible. If you dole out money to some guy on the street, what's to prevent him from blowing it on booze or drugs?

I'm sorry if I sound cold-hearted... but if someone is truly down and in need of help, there are plenty of private charities and governmental programs available to provide assistance.

Actually that's exactly my policy too. I give a lot of money to established charities I trust. Established enough to give me a receipt for a tax write off too.

Why bother with handouts and door to door "buy magazines from me so I can go to underprivalaged kid camp"? How do I know they aren't a scam? Who cares. If you really need it, there are established charities that help.

I donate to organizations that have shelters and soup kitchens. So why give money to a bum? Tell the bum to go the shelter if he really needs it. (BTW, gift certificates don't even work... and prick of a bum took my gift certificate and let it blow away in the wind. Asshole... that was my lunch.)

f*ck bums. i dont believe in their bullshit stories. nobody becomes a bum literally overnight. you get warnings and can see it coming. sometimes and often its a short time, but its still time to do something about it. f*ck them. the most i ever do is give them a cigarette.

Pull a (falling down) on them and give them a empty brief case with a lunch in it. Then if they ask for change for a phone shoot the phone up with a UZI

When I went home on leave for Christmas it was like 20 degrees outside and like 2 am in the morning. I went to get some gas and on my way out from paying I saw this guy in tatters digging through the trash for something to eat. I gave him $20 and told him to get a sandwich or something. What's cool about it is, he wasn't begging or annoying anyone and when I gave him the money he just said "Thank you" and smiled. I felt bad about not giving him more.

My friend used to talk to these guys for a long time like an hour or two.(We used to work at a furniture company holding signs and waving to people) Most of them told my friend they can make about 150 to 180 on a good day, 8 hours.
