MotherBoard question
Okay so i get around to installing the new motherboard,..the only thing i changed out of this computer tower is the motherboard, CPU (AMD sempron 2800+),..and ram,..i put a 512 stick in it,...im using my old harddrive,...anyways so i install the motherboard and everything is hooked up fine,..i go to turn on the computer and after it runs the intial shit,..it takes me to a blue screen that says:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you"ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. IF this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer."
so im like "wtf",...i thought my HD was fux0red or something,..but when i put in my old motherboard and went to boot, everything is fine,...is there something in bios i have to do or something to get this computer to work with this new motherboard? or is the motherboard bad or something,..the guy who gave me this motherboard said it was working when it left his computer and yes he is a trustworthy guy,...its one of my old bosses

When you change the motherboard you most always need to reinstall windows. Also, I didn't think the Sempron processor was compatable with that mobo.

ive done 2 motherboard changes for people in the past and they just started up just fine,..and the sempron processor was a socket A chip that everyone told me to get,..it mated to the mobo fine
Semporn in Socket A form is basically an AMD Athlon XP 'Thoroughbred-B' with either 266MHz FSB/256k L2 ---OR--- 333MHz FSB/512k L2.
There is no Socket A AXP supporting board that does not support the Semporn. It might call it an Athlon XP, or it might call it Unknown CPU.
I've got an Athlon XP Mobile running at 2.4GHz and Windows gleefully reports "Unknown CPU Typ" (yes, it doesn't say "Type" just "Typ")

Unless it's the same brand/model board.

Not always as i just replaced my motherboard and i didnt have to do a repair....and i went from a old pentium board to a new amd board...i was shocked but it worked. Its sort of a hit or miss type deal
Well, it doesn't really depend on the board. It depends on the system chipset.
If I take out my ASUS A7N8X and pop in my dad's Shuttle AN35 chances are Windows will freak out the first couple three bootups but after that it'll be fine. Both are nForce2 chipsets.

I repaired an install with a new chipset and although I could boot and get into windows, it was quite tragic. Reinstalled and it worked like a charm.
