Default MotherBoard question

i know you guys are like "damn enough with the computer questions" but just bare with me h:

my friend just gave me this motherboard,...he says its less than a year old,...doesnt have the original box and manual,...doesnt know the model or anything,..it doesnt have a processor,...but he told me any AMD processor will work,..true story or no? he says its a AMD board or something to that effect,..i havent ventured into motherboards yet so my knowledge about boards are limited right now,...if any AMD board is compatible than how hard is it to mate a processor with a motherboard?

You probably need to find the brand of the board, like the manufacturer, then find the model. With that you can see what type of chipset it uses. But i think if its only a year or so old it will use a regular XP amd chip. but i'm no comp guy so yea..just basic stuff u should look into.

Timmy, it should say the model number somewhere on the board. Usually in the middle. What color is the board? Maybe take a picture of it. That makes it easier to identify exactly what chip you'll need.

Not all AMD chips will fit in any AMD board. You need to find out exactly what model it is. It does say on the motherboard itself.

Don't look on the chips, look on the actualy board itself. Usually above the AGP port or in the center somewhere.
