:werd: considering that most school districts dont have the greatest budgets in the world.

kinda weird how the schools have to resort to this. its an indirect way of the government taking care of its citizens.

My high school had lunch accounts for students, and I graduated 5 years ago. The parents (or the kid) put money in the account, the kid punched their student ID number into a keypad at the register to pay.

Acutally now that I think about it, my middle school had the same system I think starting when I was in 8th grade. So that would've been the '95-'96 school year.

The quality of what you can get out of the vending machines is only marginally worse than the quality of the stuff you can buy at lunch time. Except pasta day, even the school can't screw that up.

no actually, they arent, school lunches are formulated to give a vast majority of foods over the course of a week, they are made to suffice slightly above average needs to cover everyone

well my school didn't have this stuff - it never had enough money for such things.

and most schools receive their food in refridgerated trucks, they just reheat them.

our schools all have electronic book signout with barcodes on our ID's and having school ID's on you is becoming standard issue anyway.

we had that when I was in Elementary School...about '91 or '92.

Not around here. They actually cook meals. And, of course, they're really strict about the sanitation...if a school cafeteria gets below a 99, they shut it down.

my school had barcodes on books and readers...but nothing involving student ID cards. they asked for our name to put into the computer.

Still tastes like shit and doesn't make me feel like I've had a real meal. Same sized portions for elementary school kids too as high school or just about.
