considering that IE has multiple critical security flaws and even more non-critical security flaws and bugs exposed every two to three weeks, and this is firefox's *first ever* (critical security problem)..

This is far from firefox's first critical security problem. And if you're working on exploiting systems via web sites, you want your exploit to affect the largest number of computers possible. That means most of the people writing this code are going after IE.

maybe, and maybe not. it's true, anything made by microsoft is automatically a magnet for hackers and such. but that doesn't equate to something not made by microsoft being any more or less vulnerable.

a vast majority of security problems are found by computing security companies, organizations or educational institutes, who target different programs/vendors equally. their aim is not to bring bad press to anyone, just to help protect the general public by making the problems known. if you know about the problem, you're more likely to be able to avoid it. if the problem is publicly announced, the makers of the software do get some shit for it, but then they're more likely to fix it - and fix it *fast*

sorry, first "extremely critical" security problem. and yeah, you're right on your second point. but that still doesn't equate to firefox or any other non-IE browser being any more or less vulnerable. true, they don't get the same attention, but they may have just been written better to begin with (which shouldn't surprise anyone).

sorry, i meant "extremely critical"
Danish security firm Secunia marked the exploit as "extremely critical", its most serious rating, the first time it has given a Firefox flaw this rating.
:fawk:

sorry dude, i'm not the one who's uninformed when you think one problem is enough to equal the hundreds of security holes found in IE to date.

No, because IE is still highly insecure in comparison.

Popularity does NOT mean that something is going to be less secure or vulnerable. Firefox has a diffrent design than IE. No, it's not perfect. But saying that it's only secure because it's unpopular is just following a bandwagon of other people saying it, stupid, uninformed and a myth.
