If ever tried to go to some secured sites with firefox before it was fixed it would tell you the connection wasnt secure so it wouldnt load the page. I tried it when I was logging on to my Capitaone account.

And no matter how many problems are found, we will never which one has more flaws because they will never all be found. You can only assume based on the rate of flaws being found, and guess what, Firefox's rate has surpassed IE's.

Here's what I'm saying: "Firefox isn't neccessarily better, because it has quite a few exploits coming out even with less market share than IE."

Here's what you are saying: "OMG IE haz m0r3 xploitz cuz M$ is teh sux0rz."


I use Firefox. I think it's great software, but I refuse to abide fanboys talking about how wonderful and secure it is, because it's simply untrue.

 

the only thing that i like about firefox, which makes me a fanboy, is thge fact that my sister has yet to download one crappy ass app with it.

you keep hammering this "rate" idea, and i do see where you're coming from. ff has had more bugs spotted lately, but what you seem to be saying is that this is a predictable trend that will continue to grow and shrink according to market share and popularity with no exception. well, maybe, but probably not. again, this is a purely hypothetical argument and you are asserting it as fact :nono: the rate at which exploits are found in firefox is currently higher than that of IE - okay - but prove that this will remain true for the next six months, or twelve months, or three years. show us some other real-world evidence from other software vendors to support your theory. prove that this isn't just a spike in the chart, as IE has had them too. do these things, and do them without question, and then i'll believe you. as i said before, we'll see.

you have asserted time and time again that security vulnerabilities are only problems once they have been found. now, we can't see into the future (unless you can). and yet, this ever increasing number of hypothetical hidden problems of which you speak still count towards a program's security status? but wait, i thought they're not problems yet, because they haven't been found? fine, you can guess about the future, as anyone else can. but a guess is all it is.

as i've also said before, you could very well be right. since i am assuming that you can't see into the future, at PRESENT, consider this, if you will: microsoft internet explorer currently has (according to secunia) 19 unpatched problems, dating back to March 13, 2003, and 9 problems listed as "partial fix" dating back to September 9, 2002.

firefox, in contrast, currently has 6 unpatched problems (but wait a few days, and it'll be 4), and 0 listed as "partial fix". 28 > 6. which is more secure?
