Anybody here use tablet PC's?
So, my laptop of two years is starting to have memory socket contact issues, and I'm considering getting a tablet PC to replace it. Anybody use one here? Is it actually useful, or do you end up using it as a laptop anyway? Any drawbacks or things to look out for?
TIA
TIA
I have used one before and found it useful for photoshop but the drawback was that the screens aren't pressure sensitive so I went back to a Wacom pad to work on it.
For everything else I pretty much used it as a laptop. I had it for two days and aside from the novelty I personally couldn't justify the cost unless I was using it for inventory or for presentations.

i tested one for possible work use awhile back. close to what you wanted to use it for. taking notes on the fly etc,
it works well for that.

Sure, at work... the HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) is just a tablet with some expensive software and a HIM (Honda Interface Module) slapped on the back.
They're neat, but I don't see how you could really justify a tablet over a laptop. :dunno:

Before I got my scholarship taken away, my University provided me one.
It was a Compaq something, Transmeta Curose (sp?) Processor at 933MHz (Sandra said it was the equiv of like a PII 400MHz) with 512MB of RAM. It was a decent machine, I NEVER used the tablet writing feature as I type 10x faster than I write. I'd never personally own one because no one makes a powerful tablet. If I could find one with a 15" SXGA screen, P-M processor and decent ATi or nVidia graphics I'd consider it.

h:Actually, for the clients at work we supply them with http://www.wacom.com/ which are known to be pretty good in graphics tablets. The Intuous is pressure sensitive. It's not a tablet pc, but it's good to add onto a new system you purchase.
