Nope. AK's and SKS's for me, they don't F up.

Come to think of it, my M91/30 doesn't like to be fed from stripper clips. The rimmed cartridges (7,62x54R) stack improperly sometimes and that creates a problem... so I individually load it and it works fine. Problems like that can occur in most bolt action rifles using rimmed ammo, but the Mosin has a rep for being the most reliable rimmed cartridge bolt gun.

My father's Romanian PPK knock-off (that I convinced him to buy) has a failure to feed about every three to four rounds. The feedramp was poorly machined, I just need to polish it for him.

I liked my buddy's BPD-issue glock 9mm, but I'm far from an expert. It was kinda wierd handling a pistol sans a safety though :ugh:

BTW, completely off topic. Do any of you guys own guns that are finicky? I was shooting my PPK/S yesterday, and I've noticed that when I shot the Federal Hydra-shocks that I carry in it, it shot perfectly. I shot two boxes of American Eagle, and it was misfeeding every 4 shots or so. Then I put a box of Winchester target ammo through it and not one misfeed for the whole box. Anyone else have a weapon that is like that...that it only likes certain types of Ammo?
My Ruger P94 did that with American Eagle ammunition, unless I used 165GR rounds.

The H&K's just swallow whatever you shove down their throats and don't complain.

I want a small, light weight 9mm. Nothing heavy. My dad just said he looked at a S&W 9mm for $339 used, which is what i want(not necessarily used), and he said it weighed a ton. He's got a 45, and he said it was a lot heavier than it. I glanced at all the posts below, and have no idea about all the different type 9mm guns.

Smiths have a tendancy to be heavy (except for the New SW99s, which are modeled after Glocks) since they are pretty much solid metal. My service weapon weighs about 10 lbs (ok, its an exaggeratioin). If you're looking at something small (subcompact size), I'd check out the Glock 26, Kahr K9/P9/Mk9/Pm9, Springfield XD Subcompact, Walther P99, and maybe even some of the little Keltecs. If you want something slightly bigger (Compact size), pretty much all of the guns I listed have larger versions available. However, in the compact size, the best one out there is the Heckler & Koch USP 9 Compact. You can't beat it in terms of quality, accuracy, and durability. The only drawback is that it costs $$$$$. Another excellent compact model to check out would be the Sig Sauer 239. Its right up there with the USP. H&K also makes the P2000 SK which is sort of in between a Compact and Sub compact.

My Springfield seems to feed pretty much anything (well, ball ammo anyway). I haven't really tried many JHP rounds yet. I shot some Corbon +P, but it made my hand hurt, and I was afraid the gun might explode on me. I need to go and try some non +P loaded JHP.

You and I have the same gun. The only thing I dont like about it is the way it breaks down. The Berreta I was issued in the militay broke down so easy you can practically do it with one hand.

Yeah , but the only way to say which gun suits you is renting them at a range. When I took this one law enforcement class there wasnt enough guns so I ended up using this deputys. His gun looked nice and all but it was to big for my hands and pulling the triggers took some effort. After the day was done my hands hurted.

I've been thinking about doing that/getting it done. Is it easy to polish the feed ramp on your own, or is it something I should have done by a gunsmith? How do you go about doing it? Any online tutorials?

you just described a glock 26...go to a gun store/range and take a look/shoot one.

http://www.glock.com/g26.htm

http://www.glocktalk.com < great site for all things glock.

I have a Glock 19....It's a compact, slightly larger than the Glock 26 (sub compact). Either way you can't go wrong with a Glock 19 or 26.....Fire both of them I promise you'll at least fall in love with one.

My 19 with M3X tactical light, trijicon night sights, extended slide stop, hogue slip on grip and 15 rnd LEO marked magazine filled w/ Speer Gold Dot Hollowpoints

Its really really easy to do.

If you have a dremil, pick up a polishing kit, they have a wheel with compound already in it, go at it with that.

Or, just Flitz polishing paste or jewlers rouge, a rag and some elbow grease.

Easy to do, hard to mess up.
