Default Time to update the computer :(

Ok so all my computer crap is old now and I need to update.

So I need a good mobo/processor set to go with.

I am looking a P4 3.2 800mhz processor but am unsure which mobo I should run to get optimum performance from it.

DDR or SDRAM is fine just need efficiency and an updated system or I am going to be screwed in a couple months and not be able to run very many newer applications

I got a dual Xeon 2.0GHz in a SuperMicro X5-DA8 for sale

You'll of course need the special case, as the MB wont fit in other cases

Get a Soyo or Asus board. I have Asus boards on all my machines and no complaint here. I'll look and see what are the better boards for that processor. Did you try looking at www.tomshardware.com or www.anandtech.com to see what they had to say?

I was looking at an Asus p4p800-e deluxe or Abit IS7 max3 but now i'm on a budget so i went with Soyo KT400 Dragon for an AMD processor. See thread https://www.honda-acura.net/forums/s...d.php?t=151170

hmmmmm......whats your price point? I may be interested.

Also does that work the same as if I had a single 4.0? Cases are cheap so thats not even a concern really.

http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/...es=1&model=130
it was highly recommended to me and i love it

pros:
works beautifully with my other components
physically appealing
easy install

cons:
otes fan is pretty loud
hard time with ide ports and my case but that may just be my case

its a bit pricy but since you going with a p4 3.2 i assume you want the best bang for your buck
problem is i think its being discontinued
ive seen it for sale at a few places but newegg and zipzoomfly are not carrying it
i called newegg and it sounds like they are discontinuing it

Well see thats my problem I was looking at Asus and Soyo but I am illiterate with all the spec designs and crap that they list.

Been too long since I gave a half a crap about technology so I got out of touch with what it all means and does

The Asus P4S800D-E is a nice board if you want to go on the high end for under $100.

If you buy it, you'll need the special supermicro case and the powersupply that goes with it. Xeon boards have extra connectors for power.

I was thinking $700. The case is a server case with 7 hotswap scsi bays and weighs a ton. The MB is new, never been used. I'm actually in the process or putting it in the case, since I sold the old 860chipset based MB.

But for $700 I would imagine you can get a kick ass P4 system.

It would run as a single 4.0GHz if the software can take advantage of dual processors (actually quad since they each have HyperThreading). I'm now sure which programs take advantage of it, but I do know when I used PS7 on the Xeon system, it was super fast. Same with video editing and encoding.

For P4 motherboard I would go with ABIT IC7-MAX3 ~$169 and loaded with features.
