i assume you're looking at another AMD chip? they are cheaper, but i've had nothing but problems out of the athlon 1800+ that's in my GF's machine. it overheats a lot even though i have 2 80mm case fans and a pure copper cpu cooler with a 90mm fan on it.

i've never had any heat issues with my P4, though some say they are notorious for running hot i haven't seen it.

personal prefernce i would say a P4/Asus combo would be your best bet, but it does all depend on what you're willing to spend.

you have a pricerange?

hmmmm ... AMD / Intel, doesn't matter. best bang for the buck i guess.

i'm trying to keep it around $150 tops. i don't really hammer away with video editing. i mostly use the pc for internet, light graphic design, sound editing, and spreadsheets.

my goal is to get a new MB/Chip, case, fan and max out the memory for $300.

that is interesting. we just got a fry's out here in IL, so now i'm really tempted to make the 35 min drive.

I just bought a nice Abit m/b with a P4 2.8ghz prescott for a good deal at newegg.com.

I'll have it tonight and should be installed by tomorrow.
