i also have to agree that completely free access to weapons is scary as hell....background checks are necessary for concealable weapons.

between my father and i, we have (i think) 7 shotguns and rifles.... 3 12 guages, 1 30-06, a few 22's.... we both hunt... neither one of us is a "toothless redneck" my dad is a white collar with his MBA, im a college student, we live in a fairly populated area, we just enjoy hunting.... so is it okay to come to our house, take away our guns, ban our right to enjoy this sport cuz some people cant behave themselves? i dont even want to get into the pros + cons of hunting, that is a discussion which many people from urban areas cant even begin to fathom...

i am 1 of 5 kids in my house, we always always had guns in the house but there were a couple things that kept our curiostity on a leash.... 1st, the fear of what happened if we got caught playing with dads guns..... 2nd, we knew if we wanted to see them, all we had to do was ask... so if we know we get in trouble for sneaking a peak when we can see them trouble free, why would we sneak the peak?

i think the key to keepin a gun away from a kid isnt keeping the gun out of the house, its teaching the kid about what happens when a gun is abused, allowing the kid to learn about guns, and when he/she is old enough, if he/she wants to learn to shoot, dont get in their way....

there is more to gun control than laws, self control and responsibility play a big role, too.
Simply...a great, level-headed post.

we do not need guns for hunting anymore, we can goto something called a grocery market, and we should ban cars, use public trasnportation or use motorcycles and bikes.

I'm not sure the second and third options are correct. Under the current system, we have restricted access to firearms (certain folks are not allowed to legally purchase firearms), but not registration. I own four long guns and one handgun. I had to go through a background check and wait ten days for each one. However, I did not have to register any of them. The options need to be modified, or the restricted access without registration needs to be added to the list.

Gun laws vary so much from state to state that it would be relatively impossible to make a "perfect" poll. I guess for purposes of these answers, "restricted" access such as waiting periods still counts as access.

honestly, i'd rather not registration but background checks.

and no waiting

and unrestricted access to any firearm as long as your background checks out i.e. us citizen for x years, no felonies etc

Almost anything you buy now is considered "registered" to your name and social security number. I don't know what you mean here. Believe me if one of your guns is used in a crime it will link to you. Which is the whole point of registering in the first place.

again, a totally different discussion - one i dont care to bring into this thread because it is not the topic at hand - but hunting is a necessary part of animal population control in many areas... upstate/central NY included... ever hit a deer with your car? you'd support hunting a whole lot more if you had.

show me a grocery store that carries meats like venison and duck and you might have a part of an argument...

if you support banning cars, what are you doing on a car forum? you be the first to sell your car, the rest of us will follow.... maybe... actually, probably not...

the problem with this reasoning is that the "really dumb hicks" as you say are more proficient with their firearms than most poeple that aren't "really dumb hicks". most of the "hicks" that are "armed to the teeth" still rely on hunting seasons and a large freezer to feed their families through the winter. please think before you post.

FYI, a grocery store by my house called "raley's" sells venison and duck. Goose too if you're into that sort of thing.
I don't agree that hunting should be stopped however.
