the spare computer does not have all the updates, so its not on SP1. this is the computer that the card installed perfectly on. i guess im just going to keep the card on the spare computer...until i run into another deal.

i'm not sure how you would check, except for maybe via the device manager.
but here's an example of what you would need to do to install such a thing. my motherboard at home has the intel 856pe chipset. so, i went to intel.com > chipsets > 865 family, chose my OS, and it gave me a list of downloads. so i pulled the right one and installed. i think this also allowed me to install USB 2.0 drivers, so it may help you.
do you know what motherboard you have? maybe i can step you in the right direction. you may also be able to find this on the CD, but on the net would obviously be more recent.
however, it just occured to me that this is a usb controller on a pci card, not a motherboard, so this may in fact do nothing. but it's worth a shot.

bunch of stuff in there. seems you have some sort of VIA chipset. there are 4 in 1 drivers that you can download at the bottom. but i have 2 disclaimers for you. i've installed VIA chipset drivers in the past, and it resulted in an unstable system. and the 2nd disclaimer, i think this may only apply to any USB controllers that you have on the motherboard.
that said, good luck!

By it simply working in the other computer you've changed your situation. You know the card and cd work... so it's the computer you're trying it in that is the problem.
However, if you decided to try and return it... you might not want to tell them that you tried it in that other computer. They may refuse to return it because it does infact work.
