HOw many of you have a bike? If you do post pics and specs I want to get one but am kinda unconfident about it cause i have no experience with any kind of motorcycles or 4wheelers. Any advice for someone that is looking to get into riding? THanks

Start with something definetly less then 600cc's. You don't want to kill yourself. Take some courses at your community college or something and stick with a honda or a kawasaki. Just get something used so you can beat it up. Get something new later.

1. Take the MSF course www.msf-course.com
2. Get your endorsement.
3. Get a decent jacket, gloves, helmet, and boots for riding.
4. Research a bike under 600cc's insurance and how much it'll cost to maintain. Doesn't sound important but really it does once you find out it takes $3k a year to insure a 03-04 R6 lol Good thing I live in a state that doesn't require insurance.
5. Go out and find a bike you can have fun with

i have a 2003 honda 954rr WAY toooooo much bike

a very good beginner bike is the kawasaki 250 ninja. it's one hell of a quick bike despite being "only" 250cc. you can buy a brand new one for $2999, it won't cost alot to insure & will be good to learn on w/ out having too much bike to get ya in over your head.

as exnbp said....take the MSF

once you fell a lil comfortable, if you can afford it (not inexpensive) i HIGHLY recommend the freddie spencer school. http://www.fastfreddie.com/default_hrv4Street.htm
i went the first of this month & it was the best time i've EVER had on a bike. i also realized i've got 20 years of bad riding habits to fix.

also, i cannot stress the impotance of a quality jacket, gloves & helmet. i had a pretty bad wreck last year & if not for my $200 joe rocket jacket, i would've broke my colorbone in @ least 2 places according to the doc & prolly would've brused some vertebra in my back & been unable to walk for a few months. as it was, i was pretty beat-up & seperated my sholder pretty bad, but got VERY lucky.

any addl ?'s you can him me up on aim or yahoo messenger

I've got a 2003 Raleigh M40. Not the best bike in the world, but it gets me to class.

I used to have an 84 suzuki 300cc POS (crashed it twice goofing around). I also used to ride my friend's YZF 600 (96 i think), and the old-school VFR (91 ). I enjoy riding a bike from time to time, but I wouldn't want to own one. I'm not good enough for track days, and its just not safe having your life in the hands of the terrible drivers everywhere. What is a fender-bender in a car can mean death on a bike.

:edit: I also took the MRC course levels one and two... it was mostly stuff I already knew, but it was still worthwhile, plus it means automatic M endorsement w/ no DMV test.

my first bike was a gixxer 750 (it was yellow so it was extra fast h: ) ,..then i sold that and got a hayabusa,..both these bikes are WAYYYYY to much for a beginner (even though the 750 was my first,..i never dropped it or got really crazy on it till i got experienced with riding),..now im bikeless ,..was thinking about buying the busa back because i sold it to a friend of mine and he told me i could buy it back if i want to,..problem is my girl wants to ride and she cant hold the busa up :happysad: (yes she knows how to ride,..i taught her ) ,..all the things people are saying in this thread is good stuff,..take the course,..get the gear,..buy a bike that isnt over a 600cc,..get use to riding and if you feel comfortable then sell the 600 and upgrade,..but if you just want a bike to ride around on , on a nice day,..stick with the 600 or lower because insurance will be cheaper and they are fast enough to just go crusing around on,...oh and the way i learned how to ride was on a dirtbike,..you can drop those with pretty no damage,...once i learned on the dirtbike,..thats when i bought the gixxer
