ill give theese other guys a try and see what i think! thanks for all the responses! keep em coming, oh btw about the double bass. we hav plenty in our other songs, this was one of the earlier songs we wrote i should just post some DB drums lol  thanks guys!
Nightwish and After Forever apply the dual vocals very well. Actually After Forever is probably one of the best dual vocal bands out there. Paradise Lost is probably one of the heaviest bands out there with some of the cleanest vocals along with Solitude Aeternus. Bastardized is an obscure Singaporean death metal band that has some really nice melodies. If you are looking for very good melodic interludes listen to some symphonic bands like Sonata Arctica, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, etc.

What equipment... try to do a live style recording... just close mic every gear and play live. Listen to the playback and figure out how close it is to the recorded sound. When you start layering you start getting into the issue of not having enough musicians. Thats why whenever I record I tend to use 2 or 3 tracks for guitars unless I know I can get more in a live situation.

Definately like the drums... :awais:

i recorded out drummer on his tama kit with iron cobra double bass and Acustom and Zcustom brass all around, with an MK219 Condensor, SM57's on toms and a Beta 57A on the kick, then layered guitars over (JCM2000 DSL full stack with 1960's A & B cabs) doubled guitars and panned hard right and hard left, bass was a 1960's Fender jazz thru a Behringer Bass Vamp pro then singing was thru the condensor with pop filter, screaming was hand held Shure beta57a all threw a Eurorack mixer and then to the pc on my Maudio Delta 44 24 bit audio interface.

On the guitars... add a third dead centre... found that makes the sound a good bit heavier. If you can find a third guitarist do an Iron Maiden style triple guitar attack with harmony solos. One you can have a lot more fun doing the recordings and you can get very good presence live.

heh that bass pedal is THE SHIT!! i had one of those for about 3 years with my pearl set. i would say with the fills try to drop in some different tempo things... like if you are doing 16th note fills most of the time drop in a quater note triplet one or something. i always love those big fat fills right on down the toms.

the guy does have alot of skills though.

basically just make sure you keep changing it up i love a drummer who has 6/7 different fills in a song woo woo

/edit perhaps listen to Rush drum solo or some led zep stuff... both those guys were big influences on me... or if you wanna go way back Mr Krupa and Mr Rich are :awais:
