a cheapo nylon string good sound, easy to play...

if you wanna start out w/ something electric, buy used. I started out with one of those squire strats, and it was ok, but only lasted about two years before it started having some serious problems. So get somthing of medium quality and buy used to cut the costs. Right now I have an American Standard (new gen, titanium bridge, and all the goodies) and I play my roomies Parker Fly

I have an Ibanez SoundGear 405 (5 string)....before that I had a basic Yamaha 254 4 string. I think im gonna sell the ibanez for a deluxe fender jazz bass:

Get a standard fender p bass for a starter or a low level yamaha

by the way i forgot to mention that i succeeded in buying an epiphone acoustic guitar at my local guitar shop. The guy agreed with all of you out there that advised me to go acoustic to start out on. Thank you to all who took the time to tell me what they thought.

I understand your point completely, but I do encourage people to play whatever makes them happy. I couldn't write a song if my life depended on it, but I get a huge boost out of playing old Beatles and Stones. Then one day my friends (band I guess, but not a serious one) and I decided to try some Who and really let loose...... I turned my Crate up as loud and distorted as I could get it for Won't Get Fooled Again and I was in another world playing it. Then my ears were ringing for three days after I came down from the high, but my point is unless you're doing it to make money, there's no bad reason to cover (unless you interpret a classic song into garbage, then I have no respect for you).

Rock on and keep it real
