I'd be sure to go intel. AMD just has too many "work arounds" trying to be like intel. I'd rather go with the original.

DVD burners will burn CD-R/W's just fine. Life span.... I've never seen a burner of any kind die from burning too much.

I have 2 friends that have burned well over 2k (yes, 2,000) cd's on the same burner and never had a coaster cause of the burner.

Well as the name implys, physical memory is the actual memory. Physical RAM. It's fast.

Virtual ram is just a small portion of the hard drive that's used as if it were RAM, it's slower but there's a lot more. The only time virtual ram is used is if you run out of physical ram. If your running out of physical ram you'll see the hard drive light going a lot and things will be slower. You need more RAM.

a Motherboard with an Intel 865PE or 875 chipset
a P4 Processor above 2.4GHz with 800MHz FSB
At least 512MB of RAM at least PC3200 speeds. (Corsair XMS RAM is good stuff)
ATi Radeon 9600Pro (unless you want to go all out and get a 9800Pro)
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum Sound Card
Western Digital SATA Drive setup in RAID 0 (I have two 120GB 7200rpm SATA drive in RAID 0)
Lite-On optical drive are quality drives and inexpensive
And get a decent power supply.
Get a nice CRT monitor if you're gonna be gaming
and I decent set of speakers.

Actually, I've been reading the Intel's P4EE performs just as well, if not better than AMD's 64bit on today's software. Future 64bit software is a different story.
