galileo was "hated" because he pointed his telescope towards the sky, which was considered to be sacred.

call it closed minded, of the people in power at the time.

regardless of whether i am Christian or not, believe in the Bible or not, ive read it several several times and it does not "teach" that earth is the center of the universe.

Well not all, I stand corrected most of them. You are right about Galileo being hated for pointing his telescope. I meant to say Copernicus, his book even had a preface that said his findings were not meant to be taken seriously. The question I was asking is whether devout Christians still believe in a earth centered astronomy, or has science taken its toll and do they now realize that the scriptures are wrong.

I doubt the church still believes in an earth centered galaxy anymore. At first, they accepted the sun centered theory, but were trying to say that earth was the only planet that didn't revolve around the sun.

I think the Bible contradicts itself too much anyways.

Which bible translation is that info in? Like Dakarm said, its not in the bible. This is a prime example of how the sacred truths have been misconstrued into other false doctrines.

I find it to, but thats a different story. It's a good book, from a literary standpoint, but then again ... so is Dr. Seuss.

What often happens is things are taken out of context.

again, where in the Bible does it state or even imply that the Earth is the center of the universe, that "devout Christians" would believe that and thus make the "scriptures" wrong?
