I am not playing the race card . Iam playing the rice card.

Its ok...at least you admit it, so you're
in my book. You're not like some of these other noob jackasses around here who get all defensive and are like "well, :blah: ."

Its refreshing every so often when someone around here will defend the jobs that we do.....usually 90% of the people in this forum bash on cops left right and center, yet do not have the SLIGHTEST clue as to what the job is like.
3 professions that should pull in a LOT more money than they do:
Nursing
Teaching
Law Enforcement
It pisses me off that very valuable and essential positions in our sort of society are not recognized, respected, and compensated relative to their actual worth.
Edit: No, I am not trying to kiss anyone's ass.

One thing that I don't think is right is that (at least around here), Police salaries work in an indirect proportion to how busy you are. In The departments that sit around and don't do anything all day long because they are in some quiet little rich town, cops make $100k a year (as a patrolman). Meanwhile, jobs where the guys are running around like crazy all day long and litterally risking their lives everyday they leave their house to go to work (ie NYPD), they make $35-$40k a year. I know the quiet places have a much wealthier tax base so they can pay the cops more, but its messed up. New York City cops get shot/assaulted/etc. on a daily basis, but get peanuts for it. Its really not fair.
Really?! Wow...that sucks hard man. But, $$ is not why I want to get into the field. (fortunately) Maybe things will be different by the time I'm done with school...or...probably not. I dunno, I want to do something where I can be active...be out on the street doing something useful that doesn't neccessarily just result in more profit for someone else.
you have to have a love of helping people and want to make the world a better place in order to do the job.....the money isn't that great and you have to deal with a ton of shit. Despite all of that, I still think its the best job in the world. You never know what the next 5 minutes will bring you, and will never have the same day twice.
