Default Wetsanding

Anybody know how to do this? What grit do you use? Do you sand in a circular motion or in straight lines. I wanna try this out on my front lip as a small project and was hoping to get any tips from guys with paint experience.

Sand with 500-600 grit in straight lines. Use a block or sponge pad with the sandpaper, although blocks sometimes leave block marks which show up when you paint it.

no thats too thick of a grit..use like an 800 wet sand paper....you dont have to use a block..i prefer hand, aslong as you can sand evenly...you can also try blocking the piece, which say the lip is white, spray black spraypaint on it in a mist, then you know when you sand off the black all over you hit all the spots.

I work at a body shop. We use 600 grit to prep our panels and we never have any problems. As long as you seal it with primer before painting and clearing.

What are you going to do after you wet sand? Polish? Paint? You have to be a little more specific.

If your going to polish then you want to start out with ~1500g then step up to 2000g. If your going to be laying down paint, then you want to follow what the spec sheet of that paint product says. Most basecoats want ~500g. If your going to shoot sealer before the basecoat then you want to sand with ~320g. If your just going to use some spray bomb paint then you would want to wetsand with ~500-600g.

Those are just ballpark figures, every brand of paint suggests a specific grit... If you get back with the brand and type of products you are using then I can prolly help ya out a bit more.

Default wet sanding,..

dude,.. first of all does it have 'fisheyes",..term used when you see like tiney pitted or big pitted holes on the clearcoat. To get the best finish possible,... use:

1500,... then 2000,... finally 2500

1500 to get "fisheyes" out ( at times you might need 1000 cause
of how deep pitted the f/e are)
2000 to smooth out the 1500 and "trash" ( "trash" term for shit
thats in the air dust,
etc.)
2500 to complete the sweet ass finish...

use 3m compound and polish,.. then
use 3m micro then to finish with 3m hand glaze.

these are the steps that I use to get the best finish on paint jobs.. I have my own body and motorswap shop

Could you please do so. I'd like to know more about about this topic... Even though the piece I'm painting won't require wetsanding (it's a lower front lip) I'd like to know the procedures...

600 - 800 will take forever to buff out.. I would use a 1200 or 1500 depending on the situation... for better results use a sanding block so that when you buff it out it doesnt look wavy..
