Cold start idle RPM high for some reason
Hi! Long time no see folx,
i'm posting cuz i noticed starting yesterday my idle spd starting up in the morning is unusally high, at around 1800 rpm. i noticed the pitch of the engine was a lot higher than usual than what i was used to, so i took a look at the tach. i dunno what the avg spd in here is but i usually start cold at around 1200 and it gradually slows down as the engine warms up.
i also noticed when i started up the engine later when it was warm, it did this funky fluctuating thing, up and down and up and down in the 1000 to ~1700? range.
what could be causing this??

Your motor should start cold at a high RPM, and then drop when the motor warms up.
A fluctuating idle like the one you described usually indicates a vacuum leak.
Have you done any work on your motor? Installed a cold air intake, for example?
If your motor is completely stock, it's pretty easy for a dealer to spot why your idle fluctuates.

nope. bone stock cept for stereo w/amp, but i dunno if that has anything to do with it.
i'm aware that rpm start high and slow down. the reason i posted is cuz the rpm is starting about 600 rpm HIGHER than normal just recentley. since my car was new, and even well after the break in period, it has cold started at around 1200.

I don't think you really have anything to worry about but if you fell the need, take it into the dealer and ask them if they can go over it. They shouldn't charge you as long as your warranty is still good.

the ep3 always idles high when its cold its only natural. the ecu knows the car is cold so it lets the car idle higher in order to warm it up. basically dumps alittle more fuel in there to warm the car up. then after the temp goes up, idle settles, nothing to worry about bro!
