Pimpingacura, just saying in order to be careful with the engine. Wash it at home, before you leave. Just to be on the safe side. As far as your problem goes. I still say take it to a shop, have them look over your problem.

My dad owns a touch free car and i never heard of anyone having any problems besides getting the spark plugs wires wet. But to be on the safe side i would buy that stuff from Gunk... engine degreaser, and spray that on then use water at home to get it off. Because like everyone else is saying it could be that your engine was hot...

There's no harm with washing a COLD engine. Just make sure you aren't afraid of rust and oil stains on the driveway when you are done. And when you are done, let it dry for about 2 hours before you start it. If your wires and hoses are in good shape, you should not get water in spots where it don't belong. No need to worry. Like has been stated many times here already, hot metal and cold water do not mix. You want a real demonstration of this drop an ice cube in a cup of hot water or coffee. See what happens.

Good example.

For anyone without said supplies, the cube will violenly crack within seconds of being put into the hot liquid. Sometimes just a crack sometimes parts come flying out cause of the crack.

And also, most good detail shops do wash the engine. BUT, usually after it's been sitting and been vaccumed, washed, etc. IE: been sitting for 30-60 mins.

i find it amusing that most of us made valid points and you laugh at us...as if you don't see the reasoning behind what we are saying. it's not a question of ice cold water, it's the fact that the engine is nearing 200 degrees fahrenheit and you're putting water that is probably no more than 50 degrees on it. like the ice example, that is about 150 degrees difference. ice is about 30 degrees, and hot coffee can near 170-180 degrees when first poured. again, 140-150 degrees different. if you make that drop in a matter of seconds, things can and do break.

but whatever, you're the expert. watch out for that ice cold water/snow.
