4th gen vs. 5th gen, whose faster
It's only an argument because some people keep attacking what others say, not just disagreeing.
Here's a formula for the carlength=?seconds. This argument is really just to prove .5 seconds difference is almost 5 carlengths in the quarter. I'm NOT saying the 5G goes 15.5.
s = Vo(t) + (1/2)(a)(t^2)
what it means...
s = the distance traveled
V0 = is the initial velocity
t = time in seconds
a = AVERAGE acceleration
lets compare a 15.5 sec car and a 15.0 sec car shall we
The 1/4 mile is 1320 feet long.
In a drag race Vo is going to be 0 ft/sec
Time is going to be 15.5 seconds and 15 seconds.
Find the acceleration of the 15.5 second car.
1320 = 0(15.5) + (1/2)(a)(15.5^2)
a = 10.9886 ft/sec^2
So now we have all the variables to determine its position (s) at any given time. Let's compare it to the 15 second car. So where is the 15.5 car when the 15.0 car hits the 1/4 at 15.00? Plug it in.
s = (0)(15) + (1/2)(10.9886)(15^2)
s = 1236.2175 feet
So how far behind the 1/4 mile mark is that? Subtract.
1320 - 1236.2175 = 83.7825
The prelude is 14.83 feet long so how many car lengths is 83.7825 feet? Divide.
83.7825/14.83 = 5.649 car lengths.
If you took the time to read that and follow through it should be easy to understand, things to consider.
1. This is assuming equal reaction times!
2. Average acceleration means it's been accelerating the same since the start. we know that car will decrease its acceleration slightly the faster it goes.
3. This doens't take into account bad launches with a faster car. it's assuming each car is driving normally and had equal starts.
I never said the 4G would beat the 5G by 5 carlengths in the quarter.
I'll admit I guess I shouldn't have said the "4G VTEC will eat a 5G alive". But, I do believe the 4G VTEC shouldn't have a problem winning.
Yeah, you should ask a mod to lock this. I keep stating fact, even showed a magazine article of a 4G VTEC time that a 5G has never seen. Others keep saying it would be close, but the upperhand goes the 5G WITHOUT any FACTS to support it. I'm sorry I call you out but it's like everything I've said you've said was incorrect, but I know otherwise. You've had no argument on your side. There's no reason the 5G should be faster.
EDIT: Found a better version of this carlength/second formula.

i wonder how the wheel weights compare too.
i know the 4th gen wheels were heavy like 22lbs or so even though they are 15s. the base and sh have 16s, i wonder what those weights are and how they compare to each other and the 4th gens. we all know wheel weight makes a difference in the 1/4 mile.
