Default the B18C is dead

I finally found the problem with my B18C. It had a warped head. SO I got another one from the local junk pile.. And what happens today? Well all in all Im pretty sure I spun a crank bearing... Damn thing ran awesome too... So is it worth it to pull it and rebuild it or just start over with another short block? Of course the guys over in the Prelude forums tell me to put an H22 in it like a true Prelude but I love my B.

Since this has nothing to do with the Integra model... and everything to do with the Prelude.. guess where this thread is going?

PS: Why bother dumping $4K into a nearly 20 year old car?
You'll be lucky to get $2k on the open market.... and that's if the car ran perfectly.
You''ve got your Mustang to pay off now... it's time to let the Prelude go to another home.

Im planning on keeping the car and since the engine is from an Integra AND people in the Integra forums are useful in building a B18 I wanted to ask around here. Its more about the engine than the car. I dont care about resale, Im not selling it.

If we operate on your logic, I should be entitled to post in the RSX forum if I have a K20A2 under my hood. If I let things slide on this issue, soon all the model-specific forums turn into a meaningless cluster-fuck.

I'm not trying to be a dick about it... but having an Integra engine doesn't factor into this equation.

Now, let's look at your problem from a different perspective.

Personally, I don't see much point in dropping thousands of dollars to get your Prelude to perform just as well as your Mustang does now.

But, if you want the car to run... I would just grab a B18B1 and just cap off the engine bay wiring for the VTEC solenoid and knock sensor. It'll be cheaper and faster than rebuilding your B18C1.

I just... I got the car for 450 bucks and its kinda like my beater/ tinker toy. Was fuckin happy as hell to see it run again then the bearing went... BAH! Oh well Guess I'll just put a new crank and main bearings in it and see what else is F'd up. Someone mentioned using the crank from the B20... is that a possibility?

GT faster, yes, but beatin around in the lude with no radio, no a/c, no back seat, no door panels... its priceless.

Personal value is more important than any $$ figure, in my opinion. I can relate with your attachment to the prelude. Besides, you can always pull the motor if you decide to junk the car.

Since this is your "tinker-toy", do some research on the B18C and determine a budget & goal. A B20 crank isn't worth the trouble, IMO. You should be able to rebuild the engine yourself for less than a short block would cost. If your looking for more displacement, an LS crank can be used with LS rods, and any vtec pistons.

Other possibilities - B16, Non-Vtec B18, B20, etc.

Check the classified section here, and on HT. Weigh all options, and choose whatever fits your needs best.

If indeed you did spin a bearing, the crank is trash. Don't attempt to turn, or re-grind it unless this is a true budget build and you are prepared to deal with bearing failure again.

seeing as it's already setup for a b-series... i'd say just drop in another b18c

if the head is screwed there really no reason to keep the engine laying around... just make sure you buy from somewhere like www.hmotorsonline.com this time.... you may only need a long block
