mybluelude, did you get the h23 tranny too? honestly, i think an h23 tranny on an f22 might be the best bang for buck if you want quicker and cheap.

The wiring isnt that much harder when putting an obd1 motor into your 96. Basically, all you have to do is cut the wires(4 of them) that go to the crankshaft sensors, and re-route them up to your distributor. Plus add a jumper harness to run an obd1 ecu. Other than the normal wiring for vtec, iabs', thats it for wiring, unless you run an internal coil dizzy, than you need to modify for that also.

If you live in a place where your car needs to be emissioned, you will run into problems. As far as I know, you can only use a 1996 p13(because the 5th gen prelude ecu has an immobilizer in it), which are hard to get, and expensive to buy new. My car is due for emissions next month, and even though I happen to have 2 of the 96 p13s', Im still debating whether I really want to have to change everything out in order to be obd2 compliant. Good luck with whatever you decide.

And the jump from an f22 to a jdm h22 (with the proper tranny), is a big upgrade, it feels like a totally differant car.

hotlude - if you're in cali, you want to get the motor that matches your year of car. it will be easier in the long run. besides, obdII h22s are so easy to find anyway. and doesn't the obdII h22 (97+) make more power? 200hp and opposed to 190?

Sorry Phateless, I had a momentary loss of reasoning, to answer your question, no i just bought a JDM engine, and used the five speed already in the car, why is the JDM version better? Geared different? Also on your question to hotlude, my car was a 1995, and the engine that they sent was a 1993, everything from the 95 bolted right onto it, I changed it out because, there were differences, plus I wanted to repaint all of the brackets while it was apart. I really wish that I still had the car, or at least would have taken some pictures of what I did, I think you would have been impressed. Still looking for that replacement, I have my v-dub back on eBay.

it's not the jdm tranny, it's the h23 tranny. the f22 tranny has really long gearing, which just makes the car a lot slower. 92-95 everything is identical, so 95 car with a 93 engine is just perfect. a 96 car with a 95 engine is a little trickier tho.

Yeah I was reading somewhere that the 96 has the obdII and is harder to work on??? Hey I sold my VW so I'm in the market for that replacement Lude now. There is a pretty nice white one on eBay up in MO. it has the vtec swap, and really clean, but so far away. The guy said he was wanting 5100 for it, which is not a bad price.

The body man that I work with used to live in Indiana, they put salt on the roads up there, and hondas are prone to rust anyway, but thanks for the offer, I've even seen rust on cars from Arizona, that is something that I want to stay away from. I like the interior in the 94-96, and the gauge cluster is digital, and can't be rolled back.

you can add the EL cluster to an older lude, right? AND, the 94 is the first year that gets the cupholder.

I don't know about the cluster dude, being digital, wouldn't it run off of the computer, instead of the speedo cable????
